Have you ever been startled by strange noise in the kitchen?

But in the end, it was just your fridge? This is because it's common for refrigerators to make some operational sounds.

Watch this video to learn about these different noises, why your fridge makes them, and which ones you should be concerned about,

FridgeNoises2

If you hear a rattling noise, this is normal. It comes from the fridge's compressor, and it may sound like a car engine running.

This noise will occur in intervals, increasing and decreasing over time as the fridge goes through its operations.

A bubbling sound is also normal. It's caused by refrigerant and gases moving through the fridge's pipes.

Just like the other sound, it will gradually grow louder and dissipate during different cycles.

Similarly, a knocking or cracking noise is nothing to worry about.

When the fridge's temperature fluctuates, the plastic parts inside of it shrink and expand, creating the knocking noise.

If you hear a buzzing or humming noise from inside of the fridge, it could mean the water hose is not connected to the water inlet.

Unless the noise is very loud, there's no need to be concerned.

If you don't use if often, you can turn off the ice maker to minimize this sound.

Some other harmless operational noises you might hear are beeping sounds when the doors are open, a blowing sound from the circulation fans, banging from ice being created, or hissing from the defrost heater.

Again, these noises are completely normal unless they're really loud.

However, if you hear a sound like a fan hitting ice, you should set up a service appointment to make sure your fridge is running properly.
